Harold became an author thanks to KeyStrokes

“I feel that KeyStrokes has opened up the world to me.”

Hello, my name is Harold Cherney and I live in Sacramento California. I am proud to say that I am a native of both city and state. My disability is Polio and it has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Now, at sixty-one years old, I have witnessed many wonderful changes in the world of disability. From curb cuts, ramps and accessible buses to assistive tools like the program KeyStrokes. My life now holds more possibilities then ever with these changes. I have always had many interests, ranging from music and art to writing, but until the last several years I could accomplish few of these interest. Then about 12 years ago I bought my first Mac. This simple action opened up many more possibilities to explore. I am now on my third Mac, a Power Mac G5. With KeyStrokes added to my arsenal of programs, I have charged the ramparts of the publishing world. I started using KeyStrokes about three years ago, it was KeyStrokes 2 then. I have upgraded now to KeyStrokes 3 and I must say it’s working perfectly with Mac OS X.

KeyStrokes has given me the ability to write and even publish my first book, "Ducan, a boy's tale" (click here and search by author for "Cherney"). That's 68 thousand words which would have been impossible without KeyStrokes.

With this first book out and the second nearing completion, I can testify that without my Mac along with the excellent program KeyStrokes I would never have been able to accomplish the task. Before KeyStrokes, typing with my computer keyboard was a struggle. I tried using my fingers and even a stick with more frustration then success. Now, with this on-screen keyboard and its powerful word prediction I can accomplish my typing tasks with the mouse. I have also used this wonderful program to develop a home page on the Internet where I show my art and verse. You can visit it at http://www.hcherney.com

I feel that KeyStrokes has opened up the world to me. I use it on the internet to search out sites and to chat on boards and in chat rooms. There is a wonderful world of people to get to know out there. Thanks KeyStrokes for helping open it up to me!

Here is one of my poems for your enjoyment.

And My Wheels
And my wheels keep on spinning around,
in my head and on the ground.
They keep me wondering why I'm hanging on,
when the pain sometimes seems much too strong.
But then I remember I'm like other souls,
reaching out for my goals.
And what my body is, is another thing,
I can't care, my soul wants to sing.
My soul wants to sing.
